Castle Stalker and Eilean Donan Castle

This post is a little out of sequence as I had not edited the video at the time, so this video captures some aerial footage of Castle Stalker and some images of Eilean Donan castle as we travelled between North Ledaig and Loch Greshornish.

There is no drone footage of Eilean Donan as drone flying is not allowed between the hours of 09:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Castle Stalker and Eilean Donan Castle

Summer 2021 Adventure

So whilst we still have European travel restrictions our summer adventure is travelling through some of the Scottish West coast – with the first stop being North Ledaig, Oban. We’ve been here many times over the years and were lucky to get a sea front pitch on this visit. A beautiful sea view with stunning sunsets.

Wait until the end for the sunset.

Culzean Castle

We had a long weekend at the Camping and Caravanning Club site at Culzean Castle near Maybole, Scotland. We haven’t been here before yet it’s only about an hour’s drive from home. The CCC is a relatively small site with friendly wardens and beautiful views over the sea. We were lucky to get a pitch at the front, with views of Arran, the Holy Isle and the Ailsa Craig.

The view from our back doors,

The campsite is adjacent to the Culzean Castle estate. You can walk there from the site in around 15 minutes.

If you watch the video to the end you can enjoy the stunning sunset.

Our Fiat Ducato Campervan

So we decided to sell our Hymer 640 primarily due to lockdown, as the European travel restrictions mean we will be touring the Scottish Highlands instead of Europe and we felt the Hymer was too large for what we will be doing. So we’ve bought a Fiat Ducato campervan and had our first weekend away in Moffat.

We are now looking forward to touring the Scottish Highlands in the summer, and then touring Europe when that’s allowed.

We also have the advantage that we can keep our campervan on our drive and so we plan on getting away more often now.

North Ledaig, Oban

So we spent four days at North Ledaig, near Oban. We’ve been here many times over the years and we love it here. You can’t beat this view from Hylda’s windscreen…

The pitches are all staggered so almost everyone has a view of the sea. The drone picture below shows the site layout quite well.

It’s Scotland so we get a lot of rain, but the sunsets are spectacular here –

The water in Ardmucknish Bay is crystal clear

Oban airport is adjacent to the campsite, so you can also watch light aircraft if that interests you. The video captures most of what North Ledaig and Ardmucknish Bay has to offer, there’s also forest walks accessed from nearby Benderloch. This is around fifteen minutes walk from the campsite, along the paved cycle track.

Permission to fly my drone was granted by Oban airport.

Ready To Go…

So, we’ve spent the last couple of days installing a few upgrades and getting prepared for a week in the Lake District.

I forgot to take photos, but we’ve installed three USB sockets, fitted all LED lights including replacing two fluorescent tubes with LED strip lights. We’ve replaced the four wheel trims and replaced the circular vent in the wing as it was discoloured.

It sounds silly, but we’ve also covered the steps in astro turf as our Labrador doesn’t like standing on the metal steps.

We’ve washed Hylda and packed everything in so we are ready to go in the morning.
