Garlieston CAMC in Dumfries and Galloway campsite is a lovely site right next to the sea on Garlieston bay, with the harbour a few minutes walk from the site. There is one pub/restaurant (The Harbour Inn) and one cafe (The Hive) on the main street. There is one small shop in the local petrol station, ten minutes away from the main street, so if you plan to cook your dinners then stock up before your arrive. It’s a nice place for a relaxing break.

Barnard Castle CMC Site Stopover
On our way North after a week of touring, we stopped off at the CMC site at Barnard Castle. This is a nice tidy site and I look forward to returning.
MiRiDer Trips to Castle Semple Loch and Camplaw Dam
The MiRiders have become part of our campervan kit and when we are not touring we are out and about in the MiRiders for some exercise. This video captures a trip to Castle Semple Loch through the countryside along the cycle track, and then cycling the Glennifer Braes to capture some drone footage of the Caplaw Dam.
Enjoying Sunrises and the Milky Way at Garlieston
We parked up on the edge of the sea at Garlieston Bay. It’s really nice here and we’ve enjoyed walking along the beach, around the harbour and watching a Heron and Cormorant. We’ve enjoyed spectacular sunrises and saw some of the Milky Way in this dark sky area. There is one pub/restaurant at the Harbour Inn and one cafe at the Hive cafe. Both are good and the people are friendly. Storm Babet created high winds overnight and since Wendy never slept a wink we decided to head home a couple of days early. We plan on returning.
Fishing and Flying Kilchurn Castle, Loch Awe, Scotland
We had a wee day tour to Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe in Duncan’s Caddy Maxi campervan, so our Ducato had a day off.
Loch Awe looked like a mirror when we arrived and the scenery is lovely here. Sadly the pike were not biting today but there is some good fishing footage nevertheless.
Tour: Europe 2023 Episode 4 Fussen to Lake Garda
In this episode we drive from Fussen in Germany at the end of the Romantic Road to Bardolino at Lake Garda, Italy. As we arrive at Lake Gard the pace of our tour slows down a little as we planning on staying here for nine nights.
There’s lots to do here so and we have a booking at a Fiat garage in Verona in a few days to have the van checked over.
The weather is brilliant and then we experience a sudden storm one midnight, followed by a bird having a dislike to my drone.
This is our third trip to Bardolino and whilst little has changed, we are glad about this as we really like it here. It’s the first time we have seen the amphibious classic car.
Europe Tour 2023 Episode 3 – The Castles
We are enroute from Landsberg am Lech to Fussen in Germany, travelling along the final part of the Romantic Road. We park up in the beautiful Bandwalsee valley and tour the spectacular castles. These are a must see.
The Romantic Road has been great. It’s not always easy to follow but we got there. Sadly, as we arrive in Fussen it is complete. Next we head to Italy, in episode 4.
Europe Tour 2023 Episode 2
This episode starts in the magnificent Wurzburg on the river Main and we head south along the Romantic Road stopping at Landsbderg am Lech.
This is a beautiful part of Germany with lots of places to see. We stop over at many places for a look around along the way capturing medieval walled cities and lovely traditional towns.
The Romantic Road is a must do if you like touring.
France Tour
That’s the end of our posts for our 2,200 mile tour of France. You can view video content of the whole trip here.
Le Crotoy Aire via Eurotruck Iveco Dealer
We agreed with the AA we’d drive to the Eurotruck Iveco dealer in Saint Martin and then call them from there after the mechanic had inspected the handbrake.
My French is poor and the mechanics did not speak much English so with the help of Google Translate I tried to explain the fault with the handbrake. The garage were very helpful although they explained they did not have the handbrake cable in stock.

With hand signals and goodwill the mechanic and I communicated and explored the fault. I was a little embarassed to find the handbrake cable termination had become unclipped from the bracket due to slack in the cable. The mechanic clipped it back on and tested the handbrake. We were fixed in 10 minutes and the garage refused to take any money. Wendy donated a €20 contribution to their tea/biscuit fund and we were on our way – relieved.
On hindsight I should have investigated the fault at the Boulogne sur Mer aire. The slope of the aire with no handbrake put me off on safety grounds, but I might have saved us the concern and the trip to the garage.
We drove from the garage in Saint Martin to the aire in Le Crotoy. Whilst at the aire I adjusted the handbrake cable to ensure we did not have any more problems.
The aire is located between houses and a mussel/oyster processing facility. It has a very short walk to the beach, although when the tide is out it is very far out with a long walk to reach the water.
