Sunrise at Luce Bay and Scotland’s Most Southerly Point

The day started well with a beautiful sunrise from our campervan door. I captured some of the sunset from the beach.

We set off to visit the Mull of Galloway lighthouse and Scotland’s most Southerly point. The weather was great and this is a brilliant drive. Well worth the effort.

On the way back to the campsite we visited the harbour at Port Logan too.

Sea View at Sands of Luce, Sandhead, Dumfries and Galloway

We are enjoying the sea view from our pitch whilst on a trip to Scotland’s most Southerly point, staying at Sands of Luce whilst we relax and explore some of the local area.

There is plenty of space on the beach, especially at low tide.

Wendy is enjoying a drink after a long walk on the beach.

The video below captures our time at Luce Bay.

Compressor Fridge Upgrade

This video captures the installation of a Dometic / Waeco CRX65 compressor fridge, replacing the Thetford N3112 three-way fridge. The Thetford fridge was just too sensitive to levelness and a little tempramental.

We installed the CRX65 with the Dometic controller. This supplies 24V dc to the fridge when 230V ac is present and detects when mains isn’t present supplying 12V from the leisure battery. I did think about wiring in some switches to manage this, but I think it is worth the extra £90 for the controller. It works well and is convenient.

Glencoe, Bunree and the Corran Ferry

On the home leg, we crossed the Ballachulish bridge and stopped at Glencoe to fly our drone whilst trying to do justice to this stunning scenery. Then we continued to the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Bunree.

There’s some timelapse footage looking towards the west bank of Loch Linnhe and some footage of the Corran ferry from the air, and the campsite.

Morvich, Manuela’s bakery, Kyle of Lochalsh and Eilean Donan Castle

After our time at Sands, we travelled South to Morvich staying at the Camping and Caravanning Club site. The scenery here is beautiful and it’s a nice site with friendly welcoming wardens. We are spending time here as a base and will travel around a little.

The video below captures the Morvich campsite, Manuela’s bakery, Kyle of Lochalsh and Eilean Donan Caste. The weather has been beautiful, interspersed with six hours of torrential rain.

We returned to Eilean Donan to film with our drone one evening as drone flying isn not permitted between 09:00 am and 6:00 pm, nor when evening wedding receptions are happening – so we needed to plan this and were lucky with the weather.

Sands, Gairloch and Longa Island sunrise

After a short drive from Kinlochewe to Loch Gairloch, some on single track roads, this footage captures Sands campsite, aerial views of the beach, Longa Island and an attempt at capturing the sunrise. Max and I had a 04:00 start to capture the sunrise so he features in the video too, running along the beach.

Stunning Ben Eighe and Spectacular Loch Maree at Kinlochewe, Highlands

We stayed at the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Kinlochewe and spent some time walking part of the path towards Ben Eighe and at the Loch Maree visitor centre.

Ben Eighe, Loch Maree and Kinlochewe CMC site,

The CMC campsite here is pleasant although it is hard standing everywhere, with large grey gravel. There is virtually no grass. Otherwise it is quite pleasant and tranquil.

CMC Kinlochewe campsite

The path towards Ben Eighe starts just outside the campsite, beyond the adjacent petrol station. It is an easy walk, at least as far as I walked, and the scenery is beautiful. I was luck with the brilliant weather.

The visitor centre at Loch Maree has plenty of information on the area. The loch is stunning with a pebble beach,

We spent two days at Kinlochewe and then travelled to Sands at Loch Gairloch.

Appin and Loch Greshornish, Skye

Travelling from North Ledaig to Loch Greshornish in Skye, we stopped off at Castle Stalker in Appin and then Eilean Donan castle so this post captures these.

Took a trip to the Old Man of Storr hoping to fly my drone. It wqs cloudy at the summit as you will see in the video, and quite tricky to fly. However, as I headed back down conditions improved and I got some aerial footage.

Castle Stalker and Eilean Donan Castle

This post is a little out of sequence as I had not edited the video at the time, so this video captures some aerial footage of Castle Stalker and some images of Eilean Donan castle as we travelled between North Ledaig and Loch Greshornish.

There is no drone footage of Eilean Donan as drone flying is not allowed between the hours of 09:00 am and 6:00 pm.
